In the summer semester of 2026, 145 first-year students went on an excursion to Hamburg. Over the course of four days, they explored the port city of 1.8 million people on the Elbe River through extensive walks and sketching exercises. The program included the city center, the St. Pauli district, the Schanzenviertel, the Pergolenviertel, the Grindel high-rises, the Kolbenhöfe, the Speicherstadt, the Kontorhausviertel, and HafenCity. There were guided tours of the Christianeum Gymnasium designed by Arne Jacobsen, the University of Fine Arts, the Alster Swimming Hall - renovated and expanded by gmp Architects - and the Elbphilharmonie designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The students covered approximately 50 km on foot over the four days. The excursion concluded on the fifth and final day with a boat tour through the Port of Hamburg.
