Translation can be described as transforming, reshaping and redesigning something. When it comes to designing, translating means transferring an idea from one design medium to another. As every design medium transports information in different ways - from abstract to concrete - every translation results in a change of the source material. There can be intentional, unintentional, controlled and uncontrolled loss, change and reinforcement of ideas. Translation supports discoveries and inventions and contributes to the accumulation of experience. In this way, translation can provide inspiration and development in design education.
