The development of mappings is practiced at the KOEN Institute in various exercises like the Beginners Workshops, the Design Principles course and the excursion. The situationist idea of personal experience and the dérive concept, exploring a city by just walking around, form the cornerstones of this method. The students get motivated to wander through the city with their eyes open in order to track down special architectonic features such as specific places, buildings, objects, smells etc. and to draw them down on maps. Searching is used in these exercises as a method to find something that you did not know existed.
