In order to learn how to draw plans from scratch, students in the first semester have to draw all drawings by hand. So they develop a feeling for the correct representation of edges and surfaces and learn to reduce the information in a plan to the most important elements. In addition, hand drawing encourages students to plan without the prefabricated drawing elements provided in computer programs such as doors, windows and furniture and to challenge all sizes and dimensions. In the seminars of the first semester the students are introduced to scales for the first time, learn which ones are common and how they have to be represented differently in the plan.
