The mandatory excursion of the second semester took place in Vienna in the last week of May 2017. 133 students and eight lecturers spent a week exploring the city mainly by foot. A temporary lecture hall built from old shipping containers in St. Marx served as the starting point for the daily excursions. The students visited social housing projects from Wienerberg to Seestadt Aspern. They visited the ORF Center by Roland Rainer, the church on Lainzer Platz by Josef Lackner, some Loos houses and the Werkbundsiedlung in the 13th district of Vienna. Further visits were made to the Stadthalle and the new campus of Vienna University of Economics and Business. The excursion ended with a barbecue on the Danube Island. Many students said at the beginning that they already knew the city, but at the end of the excursion they confirmed that although they were very skeptical at the beginning, it was a completely new and very instructive experience to rediscover Vienna through its architecture.
