Quarters for everybody/everything - A Densification Concept for the Center of Voitsberg

The aim of this master’s thesis is to densify the centre of the town of Voitsberg by redeveloping a vacant area, thereby strengthening the town's core. Voitsberg is located in western Styria and is the district capital of the Voitsberg district, with just under 10,000 inhabitants. The town is not only historically significant but also recognized as a regional economic centre. In many rural communities and small towns, including Voitsberg, town centres are at risk of dying out, with a tendency toward urban expansion beyond the core. Such developments lead to a range of negative effects, including increased land consumption, growing surface sealing, and urban sprawl. This thesis proposes a sustainable urban development model in the form of internal development, meaning the city should expand by building on available spaces within the existing city limits.
