Living at Himmelreich - A Community House in Mariatrost

This master’s thesis focuses on a property in the heart of Graz's Mariatrost district. Located in Himmelreich, a hill across from the prominent pilgrimage church that characterizes the area, the project aims to understand the origins, essence, and quality of the site and to learn its unique language. The distinctive nature of Mariatrost, a space between city and countryside that blends urban and rural qualities, serves as a guiding thread throughout the work. The design ultimately provides a practical answer to the question: What does a residential building look like that belongs precisely here and respects the unique characteristics of this place?
