A Guest in the Ruin - Revitalization of the Former Jesuit Refectory at Rosenhain
This project aims to explore how architecture can breathe new life into an existing, unique, yet abandoned site without erasing its distinctive presence. The ruin at Rosenhain has been deteriorating for over 40 years, witnessed by the residents of Graz. It is a mystical spot, where walkers through the beloved forest stop, lost briefly in memories. However, structural damage is accumulating and may soon cause this historical Baroque building to disappear entirely. The goal is to retain the ruinous condition and its integration into the forest landscape, even with a new purpose. The architectural remains will be preserved as they are rather than plastered or sanitized, honouring the wild, romantic quality of the walls.
