House at Märzengrund
At Stummerberg, above the village of Stumm in the Zillertal, lies Märzengrund, a modest alpine meadow with weathered, timeworn wooden structures. Here, at an altitude of 1.410 meters, a wooden cabin was built in 1936. However, in 1953, it was displaced 50 meters by an avalanche. Although the cabin remained intact, it was torn from its foundation, dismantled, and transported down to the valley by sled. This property has been in our family for over a century, fueling a personal commitment to create a project with particular sensitivity and high aesthetic standards. On this nearly square, compact building plot, a private retreat is envisioned, serving as a base for excursions into nature. The goal was to create a distinct yet harmonious building that embodies essential architectural elements with a subtle connection to nature and the surroundings. The interplay between interior and exterior spaces and the selected materials reflect the essence of regional building culture.
