Istanbul Community Market - Design of a Multifunctional Market Building

Istanbul, the metropolis on the Bosporus, served as a study object for my Master‘s Thesis. With its special geographical location between East and West and its historical presence as a trade centre, this city is an attractive urban hotspot for architects and city planers.
As a starting point for my own project, an advertised competition for the new construction of a Community Market was used.  Within this call a market with a wide range of possible utilizations should be designed. The focus should be set on bringing a new trading dynamic to the Kumkapi district and furthermore to provide a revalued place for gatherings for the surrounding neighbourhoods.
