In the first three days of their architecture studies, 160 students had to design and build a huge sculpture made of paper according to the trial and error principle. The Beginners Workshop 2017 took place in the studios and the hall at Kronesgasse. The final design consisted of 24000 folded paper elements that were produced in the studios during the first two days and assembled into a room filling sculpture in the hall on the third and final day of the workshop. The Beginners Workshops 2015 and 2016 formed the basis for this exercise and followed a similar principle of collaborative and spontaneous design. By trial and error, the students discovered the limits of their constructions and were thus able to make adjustments to their own designs. In this way, the constructive challenges of the paper sculpture contributed to new experiences and discoveries. At the end the exhibition was opened with a party to which students from the entire Faculty of Architecture were invited.
