The Beginners Workshop 2016 took place at the KOEN Institute's new location at Kronesgasse. During the first three days of their new studies 164 students had to familiarize themselves with the studios, the architectural model workshop, the hall, the corridor and the staircase of the new location. The specific workshop task was to produce a total of 1250 tetrahedrons within the short period of only three days. The provided workshop materials were 1500 brown cardboard panels measuring 120 x 210 cm and 10000 m of brown tape. Divided into eight groups the students had to design and build a huge sculpture only made out of cardboard for the just opened hall at Kronesgasse. The exercise was based on the Crowdconstructing and Low-tech prototyping methods developed by Mostlikely and the Beginners Workshop from 2015 was developed further. The joint design, which was created by randomly assembling different individual designs, can be described as serendipity. By experimenting on a 1:1 model, the students were able to make constructive discoveries and thus build the sculpture over four meters high in some areas.
