Trento: Redesigning Mobility Flows
The city of Trento, with its 100,000 inhabitants, is situated on the southern side of the Alps, near the border between Italy and Austria. Because of its location, it was known as the bridge city. In fact, the Brenner axis has always been one of the main connection channels between Italy and the Central European countries. Nestled between mountains, Trento underwent low-density urban expansion, acquiring the form of a longitudinally extended residential area. This phenomenon was largely conditioned by the parallel presence of the Adige River, the railway and the motorway, which divided the city into several fragments, making the urban landscape fragmented and no longer uniform. Over the years, several proposals have been considered to address these weaknesses. This thesis work is based on the hypothesis of diverting the tracks running through the city centre inside the tunnel, in order to free a large portion of urban area.
