In the second semester, students deal with the important task of designing and building in existing buildings. The conversion of the second floor of Kronesgasse from a university building into a contemporary school building is the main task of the construction seminar. In a first phase the students have to analyse the constructive structure of the building which is over 100 years old. In a second step new educational spaces must be planned into the existing small studios and the corridor. They are asked which changes are easy and which are more difficult to implement. In this way the students learn to work with the existing building and develop a feeling for the fact that every design decision also results in different levels of structural complexity.
